Anna P. Lazewski

& Ascent
鈥淭his photograph captures a rock climber suspended mid-ascent on the Boulder Flatirons, juxtaposing strength, solitude and perseverance. Inspired by the College of Arts & Sciences principle of 鈥楢NDing,鈥 this captured moment embodies the duality of college life: balancing work and play, mind and body.
Though the summit may seem distant and daunting, the climber stays determined to reach the top. The climber reminds us to embrace each facet of our identity as a student, an athlete, a leader, an adventurer and everything in between as a part of a unified whole.
The natural beauty of the Flatirons and the climber鈥檚 journey reminds us that each step in our life, no matter how small, brings us closer to our personal summits. Just as the climber embraced the journey on this sunny Chautauqua day, make sure to savor the climb of life as you ascend.鈥澨
